Backstage Academy of Performing Arts will be holding an ‘Open Day’ for new students aged 8-18 on Saturday, 4th September from 10am-1pm at the Moat theatre in Naas.

Backstage has a high reputation nationally and it is recognised for the quality of it’s work with young people. It has been operating in Naas for over ten years.

Backstage students appear in a range of films from ‘The Wind that Shakes the Barley’ to ‘The Tudors’,television programmes such as ‘The Den’ and ‘ Search for a Star’ and during the summer they have been filming for RTE’s new children’s programmes to begin in September and ‘Camalot’ which is being filmed in Co.Wicklow.

Backstage students undertake workshops in a variety of subjects each week ranging from singing, circus skills and drama to various styles of dance, comedy and musical theatre.
Backstage has just ten places available for new students for the coming term. Those interested in joining Backstage are invited to an ‘Open day’ on Saturday, 4th September where they have an opportunity to take part in some of the workshops and get first hand experience of the work. Those coming to the ‘Open Day’ must arrive on time for a 10am start and be prepared to stay for the three hour session. At the end of the ‘Open Day’ those interested can apply for a place. Entry to the ‘Open Day’ is free of charge. No need to call in advance-just come along to the theatre on the day but be prepared for a queue.

Multi platinum award winning singer songwriter LIAM LAWTON is very well known for his unique sound and inspirational music.
Liam came to public prominence some years ago when his song THE CLOUD'S VEIL was used as part of all memorial services of the World Trade Centre disaster and helped thousands through their grieving process. Since then he has recorded three multi-platinum selling albums on the EMI record label and has toured the world over. His music has been translated into six different languages and has been performed in concert halls globally.

Following on from the huge success of his book ‘THE HOPE PRAYER Liam will present a series of performances which explore the stories and songs behind the man and his book. Such themes as Love, Loss, Hope and Healing are presented with anecdotes and reflections from the Book linked beautifully with some new and old songs.

This will be a limited series of Concerts in very intimate settings and will provide a great opportunity to learn of the inspirations and reflections behind Liam’s work.
