Patrick Hyland’s New Years Day Gala Concert
Celebrate the New Year with top Irish Tenor Patrick Hyland for a magical concert of opera classics, musical hits, favorite melodies and much more. Patrick will be joining the Irish Tenors for their Christmas tour across the United States in November and December and is looking forward to returning to the Moat for this New Year's Day Concert.

Gemma Ní Bhriain (Mezzo Soprano)
Dublin-born mezzo-soprano Gemma Ní Bhriain studied with Dr Veronica Dunne at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, before spending two seasons as a member of the Atelier Lyrique Opera Studio at the Opéra national de Paris, and a further two seasons at the International Opera Studio at the Opernhaus Zurich.
She is now busy both at home and across Europe, with recent appearances as Marcellina Le nozze di Figaro for the Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn in Switzerland and her Royal Opera House debut as Megacle in Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade at the Linbury Theatre in London. An impeccable technique and musicality bring a rare intensity to Gemma's performances and, as she now turns her attention to roles with strong character, her future plans include further performances of Le nozze di Figaro and her role debut as Hippolyta A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival this summer.
During her time at the Opéra national de Paris and Opernhaus Zurich, Gemma’s many roles included Cléone Médée, Le Pâtre/ La Chatte/L'écureuil L'enfant et les sortilèges, Zweite Dame Die Zauberflöte, Valletto L'incoronazione di Poppea, Ramiro La finta giardiniera, Alisa Lucia di Lammermoor, Enrichetta di Francia I Puritani and Proserpina Orfeo.
A regular performer at home in Dublin with Irish National Opera, Gemma has also sung Niklausse Les contes d’Hoffmann, Dorabella Cosi fan tutte, Siebel Faust, Anna Maria Stuarda, Mother Paper Boat, the mezzo-soprano role in GLAOCH and, most recently, Megacle in Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade. Other roles include La Ciesca Gianni Schicchi (Blackwater Valley Opera Festival) and Piacere Il trionfo del tempo (Orkester Nord).
Equally at home on the concert platform, Gemma has made concert debuts at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, at the Amphithéâtre Bastille, with Radio France and at the Teatro Mayor Bogotá. She is also a member of a new chamber ensemble, Trio Cantare, with pianist Cahal Masterson and cellist Yseult Cooper-Stockdale. Their debut recital, at the Drogheda Classical Music Festival was broadcast on RTÉ lyric fm, followed by further performances at the Belfast International Arts Festival and Music for Wexford.
Rachel Du (Violin)
Originally from China, Rachel has lived in Ireland for over Twenty Five years. After studying at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music and DIT Conservatory of Music she graduated with an MA in Classical String Performance from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick. In demand as a freelance violinist, Rachel performs regularly with Ireland's finest musicians and groups such as the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and Wexford Festival Opera Orchestra. A keen advocate of music education, Rachel has over twenty years’ teaching experience.
Máire Carroll (Piano)
Dr Máire Carroll is a pianist, composer, collaborator and teacher who has performed throughout Europe, Asia, the United States and Canada including performances at Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, National Opera House in Tallinn, Liszt Academy in Budapest, Princess Grace Library, Monaco. As the first pianist in Ireland to be awarded the RDS Music Bursary, Máire maintains a diverse wide-ranging programme of solo and collaborative work including a complete performance of Philip Glass’s Twenty Piano Études across two sold out evenings at the NCH. Her upcoming record Máire Carroll:The Complete Piano Études of Philip Glass will be released on Delphian Records in August 2024.
With collaboration at the core of Máire’s artistic output, ongoing exciting partnerships include a three year project of song and literature recitals at BVOF alongside actor Barry McGovern. Máire is the Artistic Director of Hidden Pianos, which she launched in 2018 with the aim of sharing classical and contemporary music in site-specific locations. Her solo composition ‘Lavinia Fontana’ was commissioned by the National Gallery of Ireland in celebration of their recent exhibition, Lavinia Fontana: Trailblazer, Rulebreaker which opened in 2023. Excited by the music of today, Máire collaborates with composers both at home and abroad. She is a winner of the Bank Of Ireland Begin Together Fund and will release her album Sudden Changes in 2025. Máire will perform two recitals at Kilkenny Arts Festival, a recital of Glass piano études as well as a complete performance of the Ros Tapestry Suite alongside pianist Finghin Collins in August 2024.
