• The Moat Theatre is committed to supporting fair, transparent and respectful working practices throughout the arts.

    We primarily operate as a receiving and venue-hire theatre. In most cases, visiting promoters, producers and performing companies are responsible for selecting, contracting and paying the artists and freelance personnel involved in their events.

    While the Moat Theatre does not ordinarily employ or directly remunerate visiting artists, we recognise our responsibility to provide a safe, professional and respectful working environment. We also encourage all visiting organisations to follow the Arts Council’s Paying the Artist policy and Fair Pay, Fair Practice principles.

    • The respective responsibilities of the Moat Theatre and its hirers.

    • The standards we expect in our dealings with visiting companies.

    • How we support fair and transparent venue arrangements.

    • The approach we will take should the Moat Theatre directly engage an artist or freelance arts worker.

  • The Moat Theatre recognises its responsibility to reduce the environmental impact of its activities and to use energy, materials and other resources responsibly.

    As a theatre, cultural venue, workplace and public building, we are committed to making practical and proportionate environmental improvements while continuing to meet our artistic, operational, financial, accessibility and health and safety responsibilities.

    Our environmental priorities include:

    • improving the energy efficiency of our building and equipment;

    • reducing waste and increasing reuse and recycling;

    • considering sustainability when purchasing goods, services and undertaking capital works;

    • reducing unnecessary water and energy consumption;

    • encouraging responsible environmental practices among staff, contractors, visiting companies and venue hirers;

    • monitoring our progress and reviewing our priorities annually.

    Our planned solar-panel installation and improvements to the theatre’s lighting infrastructure during 2026 and 2027 form part of our commitment to improving the environmental performance of the building.
