Theatre Rental

  • Standard daily venue hire rates are as follows:

    • €1,000 – Monday to Wednesday

    • €1,200 – Thursday to Sunday

    • Hourly Rate - €120 (Minimum booking of 3 hours)

    • Half Day/Rehearsal/Get In - €650

    • Discounted rates available for bookings with multiple dates.

Hire rates are reviewed annually and may be adjusted to reflect changes in operating costs, including staffing, utilities, maintenance and general inflation.

For events booked in future years, the hire rate applicable in the year of the event will apply, unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Where events are booked significantly in advance, the theatre may confirm an estimated rate at the time of booking, with the final hire fee confirmed closer to the event date.

  • The Moat Theatre is proud to support the work of local community organisations, amateur groups and schools, which play an important role in the cultural life of our area.

To help make the theatre accessible while ensuring the venue can continue to operate sustainably, eligible local community groups and schools may receive a 10% discount on standard hire fees.

Eligibility for the community discount is determined by the theatre and generally applies to local non-profit organisations, schools.

  • Venue hire includes use of the theatre for the agreed performance period. The theatre will provide reasonable assistance with get-in and get-out, technical set-up, and access to the equipment listed on our website.

To support promotion, Moat Theatre will list the event on our website and social media channels. Where hard copy posters and flyers are supplied to the theatre in advance, we will distribute these locally in Naas and other towns in County Kildare as a complimentary promotional service.

While the theatre will assist with promotion where possible, the primary responsibility for marketing the event rests with the promoter.

    Lighting and Sound Operators

Lighting and sound operators are not included in the venue hire fee. Hirers may provide their own operators, or the theatre can arrange operators where required. Quotes can be provided depending on the technical requirements of the production.

  • In certain circumstances, and at the discretion of theatre management, Moat Theatre may agree to a box office split arrangement for selected productions.

Where a split arrangement is agreed, the following standard terms apply unless otherwise negotiated.

    Box Office Split

    • Up to 100 tickets sold: 60/40 in favour of the visiting company

    • 101–150 tickets sold: 70/30 in favour of the visiting company

    • 151–200 tickets sold: 80/20 in favour of the visiting company

    Costs and Deductions

Except for any agreed royalty, the box office split is calculated on gross ticket sales.
All production costs, including but not limited to IMRO payments, marketing costs, technical requirements, royalties, and other operating expenses, are the responsibility of the visiting company and are not deductible from the box office prior to the split.

    VAT

Moat Theatre does not charge VAT on ticket sales. All box office splits are calculated on gross ticket sales.

Where a visiting company or promoter is required to account for VAT on their share of the box office, any VAT liability must be included within the promoter’s portion of the split and may not be charged to the theatre in addition to the agreed settlement.

Promoters may not invoice the theatre for VAT on top of their box office share following the event.

    Minimum Guarantee
A minimum guarantee applies to all box office split engagements and is payable to the venue against the box office split as follows:

    Thursday – Sunday: €1,200
    Monday – Wednesday: €850

    Ticket Pricing

Standard ticket pricing for box office split engagements is expected to be €25 or higher, unless otherwise agreed with theatre management.

    Booking Deposit

A booking deposit of €150 is payable within 14 days of confirmation and will be deducted from the final settlement. This deposit is non-refundable if the visiting company cancels the booking.

  • The primary responsibility for marketing and promoting an event lies with the promoter/hirer.
The Moat Theatre will support promotion through its own channels where possible, but successful ticket sales depend on the promoter actively marketing the event.

We ask that a variety of digital images, videos and posters are provided to the Theatre to assist with the marketing efforts for the show.

  • Moat Theatre does not provide financial guarantees for visiting productions. Events are presented either on a venue hire basis or under an agreed box office split arrangement, where the financial risk is shared between the promoter and the venue.

  • All public performances at the Moat Theatre should normally be ticketed through the Moat Theatre box office system. This ensures accurate capacity management, customer service support, and audience communication.

Where ticket sales are processed through the theatre box office, a booking fee may apply.

    External Ticket Sales

In certain circumstances, hirers may request to manage ticket sales independently. Where this is agreed by theatre management, an administration fee of €250 per performance will apply.

This fee reflects the loss of box office booking fee income and the additional administrative requirements associated with externally managed ticketing.

All arrangements for external ticket sales must be agreed in advance with theatre management and it is recommended that this is incorporated into external ticket prices.

  • Moat Theatre produces a printed Calendar of Events twice per year, covering January–June and July–December. Hirers and promoters may be included in this publication free of charge, subject to receiving the required information before the relevant deadline.

To be included in the January–June Calendar of Events, promoters must provide all event details and a suitable promotional poster no later than 31st October..

To be included in the July–December Calendar of Events, promoters must submit all event details and a promotional poster no later than 30th April.

Submissions received after these deadlines may not be included in the printed calendar, though events can still be listed on the theatre website and other digital platforms.
